Reaching – Planting – Training - Serving

Christ said that the opportunities for the harvest would be great, but the workers would be few, and this has never been truer than it is today in Thailand. The harvest is great...but there are so few workers. Lord, send us workers for the harvest.

We see our purpose in Thailand to be facilitators of the Word through an array of programs reaching the never-reached, planting churches where none exist today, training up a new generation of missionary and Thai church planters and disciple makers, and serving compassionately those who are at greatest risk in our community.

Prayerfully consider joining our team, either as a prayer and financial supporter or as a member of our ministry team in Thailand. A month, a year, or a lifetime, whatever the length of service, your presence with us in Thailand will have an eternal impact on the Thai people you serve.

We frequently update our Facebook page. Follow https://www.facebook.com/TheVitalMessage for the latest prayer needs and updates.

Prayer Requests

  • 1 of 5. Please join us in praying for a place to set up our Happy English program in this nearby village. We have a lead on a home that is centrally located, so it would be easily accessible for everyone in the village. It would also provide housing for Pastor Pranee whenever she visits and for visiting helpers from the USA.

  • 2 of 5. Please continue to pray for Mrs. Fon as she grows in her knowledge and understanding of what it means to follow Jesus. Pray that her husband and son will follow her example.

  • 3 of 5. Pray for the children of this village and their families that many will engage in the programs we set up and that others will decide to follow Jesus as Mrs. Fon has done.

  • 4 of 5. Pray that God will call a Thai pastor to move to this village to plant an indigenous church in this never-reached community.

  • 5 of 5. We need volunteers and new missionaries to join us in Srichiangmai to help us establish houses of prayer in the other 42 never-reached villages in our district. As you read this newsletter, pray that God would speak clearly to those He calls, perhaps even you.

More than two years ago, God called us to leave Bangkok and move to a rural village on the Mekong River in Northeast Thailand. From the start, our heart’s cry has been that God would establish a house of prayer, a place for the community to gather to hear about Jesus, in each of the 43 villages in our district. As we approach the second anniversary of our arrival in Srichiangmai, God is fulfilling that vision and those prayers.

For the past six months, you’ve seen several newsletter articles and Facebook posts from us about Mrs. Fon, her husband, and their son. Last week, Tammy, Pastor Ben, our missionary team leader from Udon Thani, and Pastor Pranee, a Thai pastor from Korat, came together to pray and seek God’s plans for their village.

As we prepared to move to this area of Thailand, God began to speak to Pastor Pranee about establishing a church in our district. Without any interaction with each other, God was moving to bring together a missionary team and a Thai pastor to plant a church in a place where the church had never existed.

The leader of this village has asked Pastor Pranee and Tammy about establishing a branch of our Happy English program in his village. He knows that we are all Christians and that we include biblical concepts in our teaching. Even so, this committed Buddhist said he wants us to come to his village and teach the children at least once each week. This open invitation to serve in his community truly is an answer to years of prayer.

This month, we started prayer walking in a small village ten minutes away from our town. This is the same village where Mrs. Fon became a Christian last November.

A bag of red, yellow, and green Thai chili peppers.

We stopped at Mrs. Fon's house this week to check on her new walk with Christ and ask about her job. Mrs. Fon picks peppers in the fields. It’s summertime here, and the heat index frequently rises above 130 degrees. She said picking peppers is hard, backbreaking work, but she is grateful to have a job. Her husband can't work due to health issues. He can't walk much, and standing up is very difficult.

We asked her how much she gets paid. She said ten baht per kilo or about 30 cents for two pounds of peppers. She usually makes 200 baht daily, which is less than $6 for a ten-hour workday.

As we talked, I noticed the peppers had soaked into Mrs. Fon’s hands and stained her fingers. She said picking the peppers can be very painful when she has a cut on her hand.

This is the way of life for Mrs. Fon and many Thais in the small rural villages in our area. Even so, Mrs. Fon said she considers this job a blessing.

Please join us in prayer for Mrs. Fon. Ask God to strengthen her faith; she is the only Christian in her area, and there is no church. Her son and husband are not Christians. Her husband allowed us to pray for his legs, but then he told us that he did not understand what prayer was. Join us in praying for a supernatural healing of his legs. And join us in prayer for Mrs. Fon's son. Pray that he will follow his mother's example of following Jesus.

We prayed recently for demonic deliverance for a young person at one of our fellowship churches. What happened next was indeed supernatural.

Dear friends, I (Tammy) want to share with you an experience I had recently at an Assemblies of God church in Northeast Thailand that was truly powerful and moving.

During our Sunday morning service, we prayed for a young person suffering from an evil spirit. I'll refer to this person as Yang*. Yang's head and mind had been ringing with voices for years, and demonic forces would shake Yang's head violently, and Yang would make loud noises to try to stop the voices.

As the service concluded, my friend Pastor Jan and I offered to pray for anyone who needed it. Yang was the first to come forward. I anointed Yang's head with oil, and we started praying in Jesus's name for whatever was inside Yang to leave. Yang's head and arms shook, and Yang shouted.

I encouraged Yang to repeat the phrase, "I'm a child of the one true God." After about 30 minutes of intensive prayer, Yang fell to the ground, coughing up a lot of stuff. Then, after 15 minutes of additional prayer, Yang got up and was once again seated among the congregation, looking much calmer.

Later in the service, we offered the gift of tongues to all who wanted it. Yang was the first to come forward. Yang's lips were tight together, and it looked as if something was trying to stop them from speaking. After much prayer, Yang began to whisper, and the church pastor encouraged Yang to speak louder. Suddenly, we heard it: Yang was speaking in tongues. We saw a change in Yang's face; it was pure joy. This was the first time I had ever seen Yang smile.

Yang shared about an aunt who is a believer and speaks in tongues. The aunt had previously told Yang that the gift of tongues would change Yang for the better. The experience was truly amazing. We could feel the power of God working through us as we prayed for Yang and we could see the transformation in Yang's life.

I hope this report gives you a glimpse into the incredible things that can happen in Northeast Thailand. Thank you for your continued prayers and support.

Please join us in prayer:

  1. Pray that Yang will continue to grow in faith and love.
  2. Pray for our Assemblies of God churches across the northeast region of Thailand that many will come to follow Jesus and be filled with the Holy Spirit through these houses of God’s hope and love.
  3. Pray for our Assemblies of God pastors, praying that they will be encouraged by the supernatural works happening across the Isan region of Thailand,
  4. Pray that many Thai people in Isan will have an opportunity to know Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit.

We have some exciting updates to share about our Christmas outreach events in northeast Thailand over the past week. To kick things off, our church planting team visited a small village and brought Christmas gifts to the people, including a special gift for the son of a woman who recently became a Christian.

The next night, we organized a caroling event with friends from churches across Isan along the riverfront promenade. During the week, we gave the Book of Hope Christmas Edition to 500 students and teachers at two local public schools.

On the 22nd, we set up a booth under the main pavilion on the riverfront promenade where children could decorate cookies and make ornaments. We even gave away dozens of winter coats to children in need.

Our outreach events concluded on the 23rd with a Happy English Christmas Party. Our students enjoyed pizza, heard the Christmas story, watched "The Star" movie, and received a personal gift of a storybook called 101 Bible Stories.

As we conclude this special season of sharing, please join us in prayer…

  1. Continue to pray for Mrs. Fon and her son as they discover what it means to follow Jesus.
  2. Pray for the hundreds of children who received the Christmas Edition of the Book of Hope. Pray that they will understand the hope we have in Jesus.
  3. Pray for our Happy English students who received their own personal Bible story book. Pray that they will engage in the Word of God and discover their need for Jesus.
  4. Pray for financial resources needed to sustain this community ministry program in Srichiangmai and other never-reached villages in our area.

Christmas is the time for Christmas songs.
Christmas is a time for love, hope, and giving.
Christmas is also the time for giving your heart to the Lord.

This past Wednesday, our church planting team was invited to join Pastor Pranee for an outreach in a village near our home. Although Pastor Pranee lives about six hours away from our district, she heard from one of her church members that people in this community were receptive to the gospel. Our team joined her to host an impromptu Christmas outreach in this unreached community.

One of the community members at this outreach was Mrs. Fon. Following a gospel presentation, Ms. Daa, a church planting team member, had an opportunity to pray with Mrs. Fon. As Tammy observed these two Thai women, one Christian and the other Buddhist, join in prayer, she saw a dramatic change in Mrs. Fon. Mrs. Fon had just prayed to accept Jesus as her Lord and Savior. Her old life was done, and she was now a new creation in Christ.
Please join us in prayer…

  1. Pray for Mrs. Fon and her son. She is the first Christian in her unreached village. Pray that she grows in her faith and that her son also professes Jesus as his Lord and Savior.
  2. Pray for our other outreaches in Srichiangmai this Christmas season. Pray that "Christmas is a time" when more of our neighbors will commit to following Jesus.
  3. Pray for Hannah as she completes her Missionary Associate term in December. She is applying to be a career missionary with training meetings in March, followed by a year of fundraising.
  4. Pray for Daa as she prepares to take a comprehensive exam to complete her undergraduate degree.
